Heavy rain will be possible in parts of New Mexico overnight tonight. Isolated storms will develop again Wednesday afternoon.
It has been an active day of showers and thunderstorms across New Mexico with near-record levels of monsoon moisture in place. There have been several instances of flash flooding across the state so far today, including in the Albuquerque Metro. A line of storms is forming from northern New Mexico down to the southwest part of the state. It’s this line that will slowly move eastward tonight, bringing a threat for more heavy rain and flash flooding to northern, central, and southern New Mexico. While Ruidoso has been lucky so far today, there is a threat for heavy rain tonight and burn scar flash flooding into early Wednesday morning.
Rain will be likely to start the day in eastern New Mexico Wednesday before clearing out late morning. Scattered showers and storms will develop by early Wednesday afternoon across the mountains and drift to the east through the afternoon and evening. Storms will again be capable of heavy rainfall, and after today’s heavy rain it won’t take a lot more additional rainfall to cause flash flooding. Storms will end Wednesday night.
